Did I say I did not like sleep overs?

Well I got the option tonight to stay in a hotel or to stay in an apartment. I picked the apartment it is beautiful and very spacious. There is internet service also after 9:00 pm. Oh and their is also a family that also lives here too!

Now before anyone gets their nickers in a knot it is a young Russian woman her 2 children and her Mother so I feel very safe. This option was half the amount of money compared to staying in a hotel. Plus real Russian meals are included. I had my first meal tonight and it was very tasty. I was able to write down the recipe for the vegatables.

I have my own room with a double bed that is much more comfortable then the one in Moscow. The young woman Lannie will take me shopping tomorrow. She speaks quite a bit of English so it will make getting around Cheboksary easier.

She tells me that other families have stayed with her in the past. The children are 12 (boy) and 7 (girl). By the way 12 year old boys in Russia still know more about computers then I do. That goodness for him because he was able to help me log on to the internet.

I will leave for orphanage tomorrow at 8:30 am. The drive is at least 3.5 hours. I hope to be able to spend a lot of time there but only time will tell.

I have been told it is time for my shower and then time for bed. I am just loving my sleep over.

Is this a growth experience or what??!! Love that you are TOTALLY going with the flow and that you showered when you were supposed to! Ha.

So funny about boys...no matter the country...they can hook up electronics!

I am really enjoying reading your entries Joy. Thank you for posting.

The apartment sounds like the ideal situation, especially with Lannie speaking English! You get to experience life with a Russian family, shopping, etc. I kind of wish that I had been able to, as I had an entire apartment to myself on both trips (plus DD on trip 2, of course) and would have liked more company.

Because the orphanage is so far away you might not get to spend a lot of time - I had a similar long drive from apartment to orphanage, and each time stayed about one and a half hours. The time will fly while you're there, but will be quality time, and so exciting - enjoy every second of being with Banana!!

I'm loving this blog!

IT sounds like things are going well. That is great that you will have someone to show you around and having a family with you will help time fly by when you aren't with Little Banana. I hope you took some dramamine before your drive. Driving in Russia isn't fun at all. With sucha long drive you might not spend much time there. Enjoy every moment and don't forget your camera!

Hey...you're definitely making the most of this. Good for you! And most importantly you're not alone and you have help. I'm so glad things are working out. Can't wait til you get to meet her tomorrow! Ahhhh!

What a great way to get to experience the Russian culture. It will also be nice having someone who can take you shopping (where prices aren't set for tourists) and help you pick out items for Banana in the years to come.

I think it is a great idea! Have fun! Now, if they wake you up early and make you start doing chores, I'll change my mind. By the way, did you tell them about the delicious breakfast in Moscow (wink, wink)!

I finally got to check the blog since I am blocked at work. I did get your email. I am glad you are getting a few things to bring back for her. You can write all about it in her life book. All the little things that she will need or want to know when she older. I have some of my students doing geography. We are plotting your journey on a map in the classroom. I are really having fun with it.

Well, Joy, that sounds like an adventure. You will get a true feeling of what the Russian culture is like. I think that is awesome. Plus...someone to make your meals??? Why didn't I come with you? I think that is a smart idea to stay in the apartment, it sounds like a better deal. Good luck meeting little banana tomorrow, I will be thinking of you. By the way....where the heck is the orphanage??? The town next to Siberia?? I didn't realize how far from Moscow you were traveling, no wonder this process takes so long!

I'm so excited for you, Joy!

Apartments in Moscow through Peace Travel are great--I've stayed in several. But, I think your homestay is ideal!

Enjoy the apartment. We stayed in one in Votkinsk with a lady and her mother and loved it! It was cheaper, but we were very comfortable and cooked on our own and everything! I can't wait to hear about your visit to the orphanage!
