I just got back from the post office. The documents that I had re-done are safely on their way to my cordinator in Michigan. I have to say I do think that I am pretty organized with the whole documents thing. The funny thing however is that I had put the binder that I keep all the documents on a self. This weekend I plan on going through it and re-organizing it so that I know where everything is placed.
Here is a question for those of you who have already done it. Do you take a complete copy of your dossier with you when you go??
Okay here is my prayer request. My nephew who is 22 is having a hard time. He has been back from Iraq for almost 2 years. During his second tour in Iraq he was injuried and has a head injury. I feel very blessed because his injury is one that I feel he can over come with the right support from the government, friend and his family. So if you could please include him in your prayers I would appreciated it.

we didn't have to take another dossier with us when we went. i think every agency does things a bit differently though. i think we are going to have to hand deliver our updated background checks though.
We did carry our dossier to Russia. It was very heavy to lug around. I didn't even think about it until we got home that it included 2 of every document. So we could have lightned our load by half. Duh! Another idea I read somewhere if you have the time is to scan your dossier documents to a thumbdrive. That way if there is anything you need while in country, you just have to find a computer and print it out.
BTW, we never needed anything from our dossier while in country.

I will be praying for your nephew. I will pray specifically for wisdom for his healthcare providers and rehab professionals and for his support system as well.
Regarding the dossier...I would definitely take copies of the financial and any other documents that had numbers or specifics that you couldn't spit out quickly during court. You will have them as references. In our region (Izhevsk) the judge went through every document with you in court and we had to say everything exactly the way she had it in front of her or it would be questioned so having copies would be very helpful...can't see what an apostilled document would do for you...because they will have all that prior to even scheduling you for court. You will need your tax copies for the embassy (past 3 years including W2's and 1040's and any addendums).

We didn't take our and really needed it on trip #2-(not needed on Trip #1)! There was some information in it that we could have used at the Court Hearing. We got lucky in that I did bring our complete Home Study with us and our Social Worker is very thorough in the report. . .I think it's a good idea, though to take it. The large Expandable files fit great in a backpack and all of the other documents you may need to take with you will all be together, too.
Prayers sent up now and daily for you nephew. God bless him for going over for us!
So far, (knock on wood) I havent needed it! But its good to have, just in case something gets lost in translation. Better be safe than sorry! I brought everything! really

Great answers. We did take our Dossier with us during our court trip and brought it to court with us. We also had the judge ask about one document that they couldn't find in their file. Other than that, it wasn't needed. I like the thumbdrive idea. The only negative would be you wouldn't have hard copies for court.
And, yes, lugging it to Russia and back is extremely heavy!!
We did take a complete copy of our dossier with us all three trips. It was nearly 5 inches tall! But, we were glad to have it. Our judge was ultra-picky and we needed it along the way.

Joy-we took our entire dossier, including all documents that we updated, on both trips in our carry on bags--just in case we needed them. I will say that we did grab a few of the documents while we were there, but mainly they were just heavy to carry around. I figured it was worth it to take them in the event they were needed.

I did make a complete copy of everything in my dossier however, it wasn't needed. I think it's "just in case"... It's not that much more paperwork so I would go ahead and do it!

I will pray for your nephew. I worked with adults and children with brain injuries when I was in graduate school, and you are right that he can get better with the right help, but I know it's so hard for the person with the TBI and their family and friends in the meantime.
As for the dossier... yes, we did take another copy with us as CHI recommended for trip #2. We had it for #1 but didn't need it until trip #2. :)
PS I love a clean house too!! Now that yours is spotless, will you come do mine now?
We did not need a copy of our dossier to take over but we took scan copies of everything over on a usb drive just in case. Also, it's a good idea to make a copy of your passport, visa to take in case something happens to yours while you are there.
My prayers are with your nephew for a full recovery from his injuries.
