Things are different here without Dottie

I will not lie this past couple of days life has been hard. Today is a new day. The house is more quiet right now then usual. On Saturday Dottie came home from Gerard's parents house and was more quiet then usual. I just had that feeling that this was going to be the end. So no costume this year for her just a warm blanket and a little water.

Sunday evening I moved her bed to the living room and set her up with big fluffy blankets and made the decision that Monday I would take her to the doctors. So yesterday Gerard, Chippy (Gerard's Dad) and I loaded her into the car and took her to see the doctor.

Dottie is now at peace. I am thankful for how quick the whole process took. I laid there with her and told it would be okay. I am sad for me but not for her. She is in heaven running around playing with her baby.

I want to thank everyone who has been praying for her over the past year. I think Dottie suck it out for me. She is probably the only one who had seen me so upset when I was waiting for Anna to come. Now that Anna is here and adjusting she knows things will be okay.

Here are some of my favorite picture of her, most are ones that you all have already seen.

I am in tears... It is so hard to lose a pet. They are like children and we are blessed with them for such a short time. Dottie was a beautiful looking dog who yes is at peace. My deepest sympathy for you and your family.

I am so sorry about Dottie. She looks like such a precious friend. You're probably right about her "waiting". She knows you, Gerard, and Anna will be ok now. Now she can make friends with my dogs Lasha and Casey.

WE are facing the same with our 18 year-old dog MoJo. I hope we can be as brave and selfless as you and be aware of when the time comes.
I am so sorry, Joy. If you lived closer to me I would bring you my copy of "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant. If you can get your hands on it, read it. A sweet friend gave it to me when our lab Susie died a few years ago.

Joy,

My heart aches for you right now. I know this is so difficult and painful. I am sure Dottie will be missed but fond memories will linger on. Dottie is so sweet waiting for things to settle down for you. I am so glad Anna got to meet her.

Joy, I wish I had the right words for you. My heart is aching for you. I will just leave you with the poem that helped me when I lost my precious Kurlie Kitty.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

that is one of the worst things to have to do. . .we lost our beloved Brutus in 2005 and still grieve for him. We have two new dogs, Mosby and Maggie--same breed, and we love them, but they are just not Brutus. Bru was special. . .My deepest sympathy for the loss of your confidante, friend, and companion.

I am so sorry to hear about Dottie. Sounds like she had a good life -- the BEST life! She is at peace now. I know how hard it can be to lose a pet that is so much a part of the family. We lost my dog of 16 years seven months before our son came home 2007. Still miss her. You don't realize how much you will miss your dog until she is gone. Thinking of you now.

Thanks. Sitting over here in Houston crying my eyes out. I hate it. I hate that the sweetest things have to go away.
I am glad that it was fast though. So so sad. My heart is breaking for you.
My dogs are as important as anyone else and I can so feel your pain.
Please know that I'm thinking about you.

Oh Joy, I can't believe I am crying about a dog I've never met. But I feel like I knew Dotty through her photos and your funny stories. I am so sorry for your loss. She was a true treasure!

Oh, Joy....I am so sorry. You've brought back memories of our dalmation, Freckles, and how hard it was to let her go.

I agree with the others...I truly believe that Dottie just stuck it out there long enough to see your dreams realized and now rests in peace.

I believe in 4-legged angels and I know Dottie and Freckles (and Lasha, Casey, Susie, Kurlie, Brutus and all the other beloved pets) are now having a ball right at the Rainbow Bridge.

Hugs to you, Gerard, and Anna,
~Laura
