I do not know if anyone else has had this problem but I am suck. I have been trying to find a Psychologist to do my evaluation and I am completely unsuccessful. Most of the Psychologist in my area wants you to come to see them as a long term patient. So I guess I must just be crazy or unable to cope or I do not know.
If anyone has any suggestions as to where to look for a Psychologist or a web site where I can find one please let me know. I know that this is an important step because parenting a child is full of surprises that if you are not prepared for can cause a ton of stress. I know that the psychologist must be thinking about his or her malpractice insurance and all the 'what ifs' that could arise but really they are not making this easy.
I got all the other paperwork notarized yesterday. If feels good to have it safely tucked away in a clear plastic sleeve. I am not sure how I will feel letting it go on its trip to Moscow all alone. I guess I just have to put on my big girl underwear and deal with it.

Hi Joy,
We used a psychologist that was recommended by our agency. He is well versed in international adoption and does it all by phone. So easy and so nice! His name is Dr. Hunter:

Also, there is a woman who is active in FRUA who is a psychologist. She is here:

Good luck!
It is hard to turn loose of the dossier and send it on its way, especially knowing how far it has to travel! We will find out on Monday if ours has safely arrived.
Congratulations on getting everything notarized! Your dossier will be on its way soon too!
Hi, Joy,
We also used a psychologist recommended to us by our agency, but he requires an in-person assessment. Maybe Valerie's will work for you!
Oh, I remember sending that dossier! It's exciting yet also hard to let go of at the same time...kind of funny isn't it? You have to let it go though because I'm looking forward to hearing all about your REFERRAL!
Just think of what it will mean when those papers fly over to Russia. It will mean you're that much closer to your child.
Good luck finding a psychologist.
Hey Joy, We had the same issues/problems... I called and emailed at least 25 different people, explaining our situation and it was so unbelievable difficult to get anyone to help us (for a decent price). FINALLY, I found a great lady who did the interview in 1 hour and it cost $200. It took a lot of searching though.
Also, our agency AAI has an in-house Psyc. that does it for $200 but he's in MI.
Best of luck with that and congrats for getting all your docs done - Another step towards the youngin'!!
Valerie,
Thank you for the contacts. I think this is exactly what I was looking for.
I am so glad that I have others to talk to who have been through this
Joy
Ugh - trying to find the doc. I am not looking forward to that part either. I hope you find someone soon. It is nice to have those documents in a neat pile - soon to be let go of!!
I know finding psychologists can be stressful. We actually drove an hour away to meet with one that was licensed that did not require extensive testing to sign our paperwork. I hope you are able to find one close by very quickly. It sounds like you are moving right along!
I love the clothes in your previous post. Too cute!
We were required to have an MMPI inventory test done so we had to meet in person to take the test (scantron) and for the psychologist to grade the test. I looked on the web under the American Pyschological Association www.apa.org and from there found that each state has a chapter..for us it was the California Psychological Association and from there it turned out there was a county chapter. I was able to find licensed psychologists in our area on that website and even found an adoption psychologist that ultimately worked with us on that MMPI. I had to call several psychologists on that list though before one of them finally called me back and agreed to work with us. What a pain that was!! Hang in there!!
Oh, Joy... I'm sure it was hard to let those papers go... so much work went into them!
